The Transamerica Corporation is the parent company of several life insurance and investment companies. The largest of these is the Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance Companies.
After World War II, Transamerica was founded as a holding company for companies purchased by Amadeo Gianinni—the legendary father of modern banking who founded the company we now know as Bank of America.
These included the Occidental Life Insurance Company.
Due to the Congressional Bank Holding Company Act of 1958, Giannini was forced to divulge his banking interests and stay on as Transamerica.
In the 1970’s, Transamerica built the famous pyramid that would become the second most iconic landmark in the San Francisco skyline. The first-- the Golden Gate Bridge-- wasalso founded by Gianinni.
Today the company is owned by GE Commercial Finance.
