Results presented at the annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium indicate a drop in the number of breast cancer cases in between 2002 and 2003. Researchers believe the drop correlates to a significant drop in women using Hormone Replacement therapy.
breast cancerhad risen at a level of about 1 percent each year since 1990. But in 2002 – a well publicized study showed that women who uses Hormone Replacement Therapy put themselves at more of a risk of obtaining breast cancer or having a stroke.
The findings of that study put a big dent on the number of women using HRT(Hormone Replacement Therapy).
In 2003 the number of breast cancer cases showed a drop of 7 percent from 2002. And a drop of 12 percent in women who’s tumors were estrogen receptor-positive.
Numbers from later years have yet to be analyzed to show a consistent drop, but are being currently studied.
Researches also say they are not positive that HRT is the reason for this, but that the correlation between the two is far too great an indicator to overlook.
