Here are some tips on how to help your Office Go Green.
Help improve Air Quality by using materials, furniture and cleaning agents that are non-toxic or even recycled--- generally, not harmful to the environment. Increase natural ventilation using windows that open, when the outside air temperature is comfortable.
Recycle at Work. Look into the building’s recycling methods and take a leadership role to order recyclingbins from the local government or building manager.
Invest in a printer and photocopier that makes double-sided prints. Find out if the copier paper has the maximum available recycled content.
Save paper by communicating via email as much as possible and read email messages on screen before deciding whether or not to print them.
Reduce fax-relatedpaper waste by using a fax-modem. Fax-modems allow documents to be sent directly from a computer, without requiring a printed hard copy.
Cut down on energy consumption by turning offcomputers at the end of the day. Studies show that a single computer and monitor left on all the time for one year is equivalent to the green house gas emissions produced by an average car driving more than two-thousand miles! And be aware that screen-savers do not save energy.
Turn off equipment when not in use--- especially equipment which uses a transformer. Also, choose equipment with energy efficient stand-by modes.
Use the stairs instead of the elevator. It not only saves energy, it’s good for heart health and weight control.
Switch off unnecessary lights as you would at home. And, replace incandescent bulbs with energy efficient compact fluorescent ones whenever possible.
Write a company green policy, distribute it to employees and customers and post it on your website.
