According to a new study released by the Royal Free and University College Medical School in London, dramatic loss of height in old age was directly correlated to a higher risk for heart disease and other ailments. In the study – men who lost more than 3 centimeters in height from 40-65 had a 64% percent higher risk of mortality then men who lost 1 centimeter or less.
Average height loss in men is about 0.8 centimeters. This occurs because of natural bone-shrinking in the body upon old age. The study also accounted for men who lost more than 4 centimeters due to osteoporosis.
Despite the finding – the study released no medical reasoning for increase in mortality.
