More than 68 million Americans have no form of life
insurance. Many who have coverage don't realize they
may be dramatically underinsured.
Last summer both houses of congress unanimously passed a resolution officially designating September as Life Insurance Awareness Month. It´s purpose is to educate the American people about the importance of having sufficient life insurance coverage. As well as inform them of all the options
that potential life insurance consumers have avaliable to them.
In a letter written days after congress' approval, President Bush lauded the important service this industry provides to American citizens. He said "Life insurance companies provide valuable services that help workers and their families meet their financial needs."
Many state governments, like Arnold Schwartzenegger´s in California, have embraced Life Insurance Awareness Month
with open arms. Schwartzenegger states "Whether Americans think they are unable to afford the premium or feel that it is unpleasant to contemplate the loss of a loved one, it still does not change the fact that life has its unexpected ups and downs. Life insurance can soften the blow of life´s difficulties by providing an affordable safety net."
The month´s events are coordinated by the non-profit LIFE Foundation (www.lifefdn.org). Each year they choose a spokesman and go on a monthlong campaign to educate consumers through various media.
This year´s Life Insurance Awareness MOnth spokesman is Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton. He'll be speaking on behalf of Life Insurance Awareness Month on TV, Radio, Newspapers and Magazines all september long. Previous spokesmen include Marilu Henner and Kwame Jackson.
Life Insurance Awarsieness Month is also sponsored by over 100 major companies in the United States.
